Posted on August 6, 2020
At North York Chrysler, we enjoy showing off our amazing selection of vehicles from Dodge. One of the most popular cars, trucks, or minivans at our dealership is the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. This fuel-efficient minivan offers drivers a tremendous amount of performance and comfort features so we understand why the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan rarely stays in stock for long. However, we also thought it would be helpful to compare our leading minivan with others on the market. This time around, we will match the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 2016 Kia Sedona.
2016 Dodge Grand Caravan
The 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan is available in nine trim levels and up to five exterior colours. No matter which level you choose you get a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar VVT V6 engine that produces 283 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. 4400 lb.-ft. of torque, both of which top the Wards Auto small van category. When matched with a six-speed 62TE automatic AutoStick transmission, you get up to 9.4L/100 KM (30 mpg) highway, 13.7L/100KM (21 mpg) city, and 3600 pounds (1633 kg) in towing power.* The standard touring suspension and the power rack-and-pinion steering give you a smooth and predictable ride.
When it comes to comfort and technology, the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan offers more than most minivans out there. You get A/C with front dual-zone manual temperature controls and a standard Radio 130 multimedia centre with four speakers. There is also an optional Radio 430 multimedia centre with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, one-year of SiriusXM satellite radio, and a class-exclusive dual-screen Blu-ray and DVD video entertainment system.
Since you'll be carrying precious cargo like your family, you'll appreciate the advanced multistage driver and front-passenger air bags, supplemental front-seat-mounted side and all-row side-curtain airbags, driver's knee blocker air bag, and an Enhanced Accident Response System.
2016 Kia Sedona
While a passable minivan, the 2016 Kia Sedona comes up short in a few critical categories compared to the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The standard engine is a 3.3-liter engine that only produces 276 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 248 lb.-ft. of torque at 5200 rpm and comes with six-speed shift-able automatic and front wheel drive. As far as fuel efficiency the 2016 Kia Sedona can at best get 12L/100 KM (24 mpg) and 16L/100 KM (18 mpg) city.* You can tow up to 3500 pounds (1587 kg).
This minivan comes with front and rear air conditioning, power steering, a USB connection and three months of satellite radio service. There are front bucket seats as well as manual folding split-bench third-row seats. There is also an optional rear-seat entertainment system and wheel locks. As far as safety, you get dual front side-mounted airbags, front, rear, and third-row head airbags, stability control, and four-wheel ABS.
Even the most unbiased observer would come to the conclusion that the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan beats the 2016 Kia Sedona in a number of ways including fuel efficiency, engine power, towing, and standard comfort and safety features.
