Choosing the right the minivan for you and your family can be challenging. One way to make the decision is by looking at what the auto experts around the world are saying about a vehicle. If you go by these criteria, the experts at North York Chrysler think the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is the only choice. The dominant 2017 Chrysler Pacifica has already collected 30 major industry awards including the Best Minivan for the Money in 2017 from U.S. News & World Report, so it stands out from the competition. At North York Chrysler, we always try to offer our customers in the Toronto area the most advanced new and pre-owned vehicles available. With this in mind, we thought that it would be helpful to take a look at the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica as well as one of its leading competitors, the 2017 Honda Odyssey.
2017 Chrysler Pacifica
The versatile 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is available in five unique trim levels and nine bold colours, so there is one to match your exact needs. Powering this groundbreaking SUV is a robust 3.6-litre Pentastar VVT V6 engine that produces 287 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 262 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. The exclusive nine-speed dual-motor eFlite Electrically Variable Transmission gives you both outstanding control and impressive fuel efficiency of up to 8.4 L/100 km highway and 12.4 L/100 km city.* To add to this already impressive engine, there is also a hybrid trim that will save you fuel cost with up to 3.5L/100 KM (80 MPGe) in efficiency. Because it is a world class SUV, Chrysler gives you and your family lots of space, 1,633 kg in towing power, and up to 243 available seating and cargo configurations.
To keep you, your family, and your friends as safe as possible as you travel around Canada, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica includes an eight air bags system with advanced multistage driver and front-passenger, driver and front-passenger inflatable knee bolster, supplemental front seat-mounted side, and supplemental side-curtain air bags for all rows. There are also more standard and available safety features including:
- Four-wheel antilock disc brakes with Rain Brake Support and Ready Alert Braking
- ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera
- KeySense system
- Forward Collision Warning
- Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist
No matter where you travel, you can stay connected and entertained thanks to a choice of Uconnect multimedia centres that offer the latest in technology such as:
- Five and 8.4-inch touchscreens
- Available premium audio systems powered by Alpine and harman/kardon,
- Uconnect Theater for rear occupants with class-exclusive dual 10-inch front seatback-mounted touchscreens.
2017 Honda Odyssey
While Honda vehicles are quite popular, that doesn't mean they are always a good choice. When it comes to the current minivan crop, the 2017 Honda Odyssey has a number of benefits, but the when compared to the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica it falls short in a number of ways. The Honda Odyssey is available in seven trim levels but only five exterior colours and there is no hybrid trim available. Other shortcomings include:
- A less powerful standard engine 3.5-litre, 24-valve, SOHC, i-VTEC V6 engine with 248 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 250 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm
- A six-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control gives you fuel efficiency of up to 8.6 L/100 km highway.*
The 2017 Honda Odyssey is safe thanks to ABS, EBD, dual-stage multiple-threshold front airbags, and some optional features such as Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning. However, it can only tow up to 1587 kg and the standard 240-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with MP3/Windows Media Audio playback capability and seven speakers does not match up to any of the Uconnect systems in the 2017 Chrysler Pacfica.
Overall
After looking over all the specs, some of which we listed here, it should be fairly clear that nothing can beat the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica when it comes to:
- Engine power
- Transmission
- Fuel efficiency
- Safety and tech features
- More towing power
- Available hybrid trim
