From Closed Cabin to Open-Air Fun: Wrangler Door Removal 101

One of the most recognizable features of the 2026 Jeep Wrangler is its removable-door design, giving drivers the freedom to enjoy a true open-air driving experience. For 2026, Jeep makes the process easier with a quick-release door hinge system, reducing the need for traditional hinge-bolt removal.

If you are new to Wrangler ownership, here is a simple guide to removing, storing and reinstalling the doors.

How to Remove the Doors

Start by parking your Wrangler on a flat surface with enough room to open the doors safely. Because the doors can be heavy, having a second person help is recommended.

First, lower the window completely. This protects the glass and gives you a solid area to hold.

Next, locate and disconnect the electrical wiring harness. Front-door connections are found near the lower instrument panel, while rear-door connectors on four-door models are located near the B-pillar.

Then locate the door check arm, which controls how far the door opens. Release the retaining clip and remove the pin. Once disconnected, keep a firm grip on the door because it can swing more freely.

With another person supporting the door, carefully lift it straight upward until the hinge pins clear the body-mounted hinges.

How to Store Wrangler Doors

Store removed doors in a dry, secure and padded location. A dedicated Jeep door rack, wall-mounted hanger or protective door bag can help prevent scratches and damage.

Avoid stacking doors directly together or placing painted edges against concrete, metal or other hard surfaces. Never leave loose doors unsecured inside the vehicle.

How to Reinstall the Doors

To reinstall the doors, carefully align the hinge pins with the body-mounted hinges and lower the door into position.

Reconnect the door check arm, secure the retaining clip and reconnect the electrical harness. Reinstall any access panels or straps that were removed during the process.

Before driving, test the power windows, locks and mirrors to make sure everything is operating normally.
